The Road To Badagry
This is a poetry work that encapsulates the agonies of the Badagry road users and the road. Written by Aliu Akeem.
The Badagry road had since being in a state of neglect. This has resulted to adverse economy, fatal accidents, long hours of journeying. Despite the dilapidated state of the road, it doesn't give any concerns to the officers who wait strongheartedly and demand for their cash. Read below
When you hear of Badagry
What comes to the mind, is it's social pedigree
People willing to come and see these tourist places
smiling in their historical places.
But there is a caution, from the road.
The naked road!
The road has a fearful eyes
That drives tourists away on sight
The road is a pricky and thorny one
Whose fingers sinks into the tyres of everyone,
Like a deliberate action
In imagination
When gridlocks hold you there,
Day becomes night.
And night becomes day.
Then you accept your fate.
Do you also call these holes potholes?
They are grave holes.
When you hear trailers grumbling,
Run aside! Coz it's a notice of its falling.
And the fierce holes swallow it without feeling it.
But what happens to the vehicles in the gridlock?
They get crushed
Just in front of the crying bloods,
Are the gun men in different uniforms.
Their eyes are wide ,wild and weird.
Their ears are blind, arms are longer, with sealed hearts like rocks,
Plucking monies of pains,
From the sad survivors of the daily adventures.
The youth have cried,
But no one listens to their cries.
They turned to the government
Oh! It was all disappoinment.
Even on a peaceful protest,
They were taken to Panti to rest.
But in the course of the Endsars,
They have decided to give no sirs.
But fight in the course of their wailing road.
