Lagos Community Youth call for total reformation of Nigeria Police Force

The Leadership of Lagos Community Youth Development Initiative (LCYDI) under the watch of Amb. Akanni Micheal, has called on the Federal Government for TOTAL REFORMATION of the Nigerian Police Force. He said" It is a call to end police oppression and brutality in Nigeria. The campaign started as a social media campaign using the hashtag #ENDSARS to demand for Nigeria's government to scrap and end the deployment of Nigeria Police Force Special Anti-Robbery Squad, popularly known as SARS.

During the recent #EndSARS and #EndPoliceBrutality protest, Nigerians shared evidences with stories and video of how members of SARS and Nigerian Police engaged in kidnapping, murder, theft, rape, torture, unlawful arrests, high-handedness, humiliation, unlawful detention, extrajudicial killings, and extortion.

OUR RECOMMENDATION: while it is quite true that the F-SARS have truly deviate from their "original concept" as perfectly captured by Nigerians, but  one thing worthy of note  is that it may not be unconnected to the fact that the structure and operation of the 'uncivilized' Nigerian Police Force itself continue to decay into an undemocratic institution full of flaws and professional carelessness that endangers the life and property they ought to protect.

Though, we really understand the continues outcry by majority of people 'especially' our youths to #EndSARS due to some countless evil that's been committed by some bad elements within the unit but we must also think broad when it come to issues like this which affected the entire Nigerians.

We should examine this critical question; Is it only the SARS unit that are brutal or the Nigerian Police?
We are very sure, most of you know that in some of the #ENDSARS protest, It was reported that police not just SARS, open fire at the protesters, I know you've not forgotten so soon the countless cases of police brutality that we read and here of, in the newspapers everyday, thus it is not only the SARS that perpetrates  brutality, lawlessness and violence but the Nigerian Police Force" in it's entirety is culpable .

And so ending SARS is never the solution, But

1. Democratizing the entire police system by reforming them into a truly '  modern and civilize law enforcement agency'
2. Fishing out and dealing with the bad eggs in the Nigerian Police Force.
3. Changing the name of the SARS unit for public trust and engage the trusted civil society groups and Community stakeholders as part of the committee to oversee its operations.
4. Returning to their original concept, mode of operation, and mandate.  will go along way. If not, the campaign to #EndSARS may not solve the problem after dissolution of the SARS unit by the authority.

Lastly, we use this opportunity to also call upon the masses mostly our youths and students Nationwide including Mother’s young parents to please be calm patient and calm let’s give Mr President the chance to address the masses request, May I also remind you all that we are still in COVID-19 Pandemic eased lockdown and should try not to endanger our lives and love ones since the Covid-19 Pandemic threat to our lives is far from coming to an end and our duties is to continue to support the Federal Government through the Presidential Task Force on Covid-19 PTF and others like Federal Ministry of Health, Nigeria Centre for Disease Control NCDC, National Primary Health Care Development Agency NPHCDA."

Signed:
Amb. Akanni Michael for LCYDI.
