The idea of the job was raised in 2019 for some eight states : Adamawa, Borno, Ebonyi, Edo, Ekiti, Jigawa, Katsina and Kwara, to reduce the level of poverty in the country, especially to those on the bottom of the economy. Later, considering the level at which poverty is sweeping the populace, it was extended to all states and local government areas. 

Since Nigeria has 774 local governments , and the job requires 1000 from each local government, it is an automatic opportunity for 774,000 beneficiaries.

WHO CAN APPLY

The scheme is mainly for unskilled persons living in rural areas. This consist of illiterates and semi-literates. According to the minister of labour, only 200 well informed and educated minds Will be employed nationally to take supervisory roles and others. 

HOW TO APPLY

Minister for Labour, Festus Keyamo said political leaders in all areas will be allowed to select not more than 10 per cent of the beneficiaries in their areas. This is the breakdown of the slots:

Governors.    40

Senators.      30

Principal Officers in the National Assembly.  30

House of Reps.    25

Ministers.     30

Principal Officers in State House of Assembly   30.

 He added that ,"for the purpose of transparency and accountability in the process, the President has approved the use of select banks to register and collate data of the beneficiaries."

This means that you need to meet the political Representatives of your area.

WHAT IS THE JOB NATURE

Beneficiaries will be  engaged in:

• Drainage digging and clearance

• Irrigation canals clearance

Rural feeder road maintenance

• Maintenance of the Great Green Wall nurseries and orchards in Borno, Jigawa and Katsina

*Traffic control

• Street cleaning

• Cleaning of public infrastructure like Health Centres, Schools and the likes.

FOR HOW LONG WILL THE JOB BE DONE AND WHEN IS IT STARTING

After the registration process which is ongoing, the actual date for the commencement is October 1st. On duration of the job, the Minister said that It is a dry season/off season transient job programme and was originally designed for the rehabilitation/maintenance of public and social infrastructure.

This means that the works are on and off. For instance, a person employed to clear bushes on federal roads may be paused till the grasses grow again.

PAYMENT

According to the minister, participants will get 20,000 naira monthly.
