Face of Lagos in the eyes of the rain

Aliu Akeem

Lagos is really a beautiful place to live. It is unarguably the most developed State in Nigeria and one of the mega cities in Africa. When in places like Victoria Island, Lekki, Ikoyi, Ikeja at night, you will attest to the beauty of the state, as it oozes and booms in really stylistic forms with the multi colored lights seen adding glamour to the tall expensive buildings across shores of its waters.

But in rainy season, the beauties of the lagoon is lost. Lagos becomes defaced with murky and dirty water, from everywhere including: the River, gutters, canals and even from the soil. Several reasons are associated with this. But one of the biggest factors of this, is the lackadaisical attitude of the residents toward gutter management. The indiscriminate dumping of almost everything in the gutter comes to hunt, as the water passages leading to the rivers are usually blocked. This makes the society becomes easily flooded.

The Social Watch correspondents, take a journey round the state to see the faces.
