World Cultural Diversity Day: Akran of Badagry, addresses Lagos youths

 

To commisurate the World's Day for Cultural Diversity celebrated around the globe, the Lagos Communities Youths Development Initiative (LCYDI) Leadership, led by Amb. Akanni Michael, State Chairman, Comrade Dele Moses Deputy Chairman and Ajape Yahaya Badagry LG coordinator, Celebrate United Nations Day for Cultural Diversity and Dialogue 2021, with a visit to the HRM. De Wheno Aholu Menu-Toyi 1, Akran of Badagry and Badagry Heritage Musium. 

The World Day for Cultural Diversity for Dialogue and Development, is a United Nations–sanctioned international holiday for the promotion of diversity issues. It is an opportunity to help communities understand the value of cultural diversity and learn how to live together in harmony. This day was created as a result of the destruction of the Buddha statues of Bamiyan in Afghanistan in 2001. The statues were blown up and destroyed in March 2001 by the Taliban, on orders from leader Mullah Mohammed Omar, after the Taliban government declared that they were idols.

Receiving the LCYDI leadership, the venerated king, Akran of Badagry opened faucets of prayers to the youths, upon hearing the vision, aims and objectives of the society, one of which is to champion the cause for development and charge the youth for responsible characters amidst peaceful co-existence among the different ethnic groups and governments in the state. 

The Akran charged them to be more responsible, make their society to be more habitable and tolerant for the numerous cultural groups in the state and be smart enough to address security challenges. He declared his support  to the body, while telling the youth to enjoy themselves in the palace and catch fun.

Moving further, the visitors paid a visit to the Heritage Museum in Badagry, which is known for keeping really old things like the slavery era records. Mr Peter Mesewaku. Head of the Heritage Museum, explained the Cultural impact of the Museum. In his talks with the youth, he lauded Bola Ahmed Tinubu's efforts in redefining the museum, saying the museum has lost most of the things of the historic times and were sometimes in shambles, before the Former Governor of Lagos State in his regime, redefined it. 

He preached on the need for youth to be culturally tolerant, in a country like Nigeria. He admonishes that Lagos youths, be it indigenes or non-indigenes, should embrace the cosmopolitan nature of the state and live in harmony. Bringing down the discussion back home, he urges the Badagry people among them to shun the: Egun, Awori, Ayoonu syndrome and chart developmental course.  The team were taken round the museum and to see the historical artefacts.

Appreciating the king and and the museum head, The LCYDI Chairman appreciates them for their support for preserving the Cultural heritage of the good people of Badagry and Lagos State.
