NIMC officials, monetize NIN Reg with 5k - 10k demands

The officials of the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC), have allegedly turned the free Program to money making avenue.

The masses who spoke with The Social Watch media, lamented the hardships of coming to queue from morning till evening, and only meet the officials who demand 500 Naira for form and 5k - 10k service fee.

This seems to be a trend practiced by by the officials Nationally, as The Social Watch, gather the reports from different places, posted on our social media platforms.

Here are some of the reports:

At Ojo local government., They are collecting money o...it's happening at Ojo local govt here. Okokomaiko area to be precise....it's 5k... and u will pay 500naira for the form first..then pay 5k when coming to submit it . And if u want it instantly...it's 10k...u will collect it immediately. Seriously....I have decided that I won't do it...if NIN like, they should block the sim"

" In Badagry, they are collecting 5k. My wife did hers at 5k, and they said my own is 7k. They said if you give them 10k, they will do everything for you at once"

" At Sango Ota here, that's the way they are doing it o. If you don't have 5k just sit down for house jejely"

" Social Watch, wetin dey happen for Etiosa here tire me o. If you no hold your 5k, if you like sit under sun for 10hrs, nobody dey see u o. I think say na only here the thing dey happen before. As I come read others now, I see say na trend"

More reports about the scandalous and dubious act of the officials keep surfacing on the social media discussions.

Meanwhile, some of them suggested that the government should employ a multifaceted approach to achieving this. They said it should go beyond having to appear physically somewhere. The idea of a portal was raised, where biometrics will be done, or the registration centers be pluralized, so that it can cover more places.

The Social Watch therefore, calls on all the stakeholders who can stop this act at the centers to enhance the free impression of the process.
