Fed Govt to disburse N80m to women in Kano, Jigawa

The Federal Government on Monday revealed that 12,000 women in Kano and Jigawa states will benefit from its ongoing Cash Grant for Rural Women Project.

The women are expected to get N20, 000 each.

About 8, 000 women in Kano State will benefit from the ongoing project while 4,000 women in Jigawa will benefit from the programme.

The beneficiaries, according to the Federal Government, are drawn from the 44 local government areas of Kano State.

This was revealed by the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development, Sadiya Farouq, during the inaugural ceremony of the project in Kano State.

The Minister, who was represented by the Permanent Secretary of the ministry, Bashir Alkali, stated that the project was introduced last year to sustain the social inclusion agenda of President Buhari’s administration.

This is contained in a statement signed by Deputy Director of Information of the ministry, Rhoda Iliya.

The minister further explained that the grant is expected to increase income and productive assets of the target beneficiaries.

She said: “It is designed to provide a one-off grant to some of the poorest and most vulnerable women in rural and semi-urban areas of the country.

“A cash grant of N20, 000 will be disbursed to about 125,000 poor women across the 36 states of the federation and the Federal Capital Territory.”

She urged the beneficiaries to make good use of the grant to contribute towards improving their living standards.

In Jigawa State, over 4,000 women across the 27 local government areas will also benefit from the grant.

The minister revealed this while inaugurating the disbursement of the grant in Dutse, the Jigawa State capital.

She said: “I have been following your Excellency’s transformational effort and I am confident that with this track record, various projects and programmes implemented by President Buhari’s administration will have the desired impact on lives of the people of Jigawa State.”
