Government extends SIM linkage to NIN deadline. Check date

 The Federal Government on Monday extended the December 30, 2020 deadline for the NIN linkage with telephones.

It announced new deadlines via the official Twitter handle of the Federal Ministry of Communications and Digital Economy after massive crowds stormed the headquarters of the NIMC in Abuja and its offices in other parts of the country.

The decision  was part of resolutions reached during an urgent meeting of key stakeholders in the communications industry that was convened by the Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Isa Pantami.

In reaction to the massive opposition to the declaration and the crowds that greeted the offices of the NIMC in Lagos and Abuja, the government convened a meeting of stakeholders on Monday, where participants agreed to shift the deadline.

Resolutions reached at Monday’s meeting, which was chaired by Pantami, were that there should be “three weeks extension for subscribers with NIN from December 30, 2020 to January 19, 2021.

“Six weeks extension for subscribers without NIN from December 30, 2020 to February 9, 2021.”
